What the School Trustee does

Also on the ballot: the School District 70 (Pacific Rim) Board of Education — seven trustees in total.

  • Six trustees for Election Area 2: the City of Port Alberni plus Electoral Areas A (Bamfield), B (Beaufort), D (Sproat Lake), E (Beaver Creek) and F (Cherry Creek)
  • One trustee for Election Area 1: Tofino, Ucluelet and Electoral Area C (Long Beach)

Trustees don't run the schools — the Superintendent and staff do. The Board sets the district's annual budget within provincial funding, sets district policy (catchments, busing, student conduct, Indigenous education), decides on school openings, closures and capital priorities submitted to the province, hires and evaluates the Superintendent and Secretary-Treasurer, and approves the district strategic plan. Trustees are paid a modest stipend and typically meet twice a month. The ACRD runs the trustee election on behalf of SD70. (School Act.)

How to vote
