Hello Port Alberni My name is Wendy Lee Kerr I live in Port Alberni, and I’ve lived here for 66 years. I am running for city council because I love this town, It is truly the town with a heart. The residents are kind, friendly, and they smile at you as you walk down the street, it’s a small town vibe and I love it. The parks, trails, rivers and lakes all in close proximity. We are so blessed that we live in this beautiful valley and have many green spaces. I have seen many changes over the years, some good, some not so good, I have been on council before 2011-2014, I loved being a part of the community and loved working with our team. It was difficult working a full time job and managing council as well, but this time, as I’ve retired, I have the time to do a good job for the residents of Port Alberni. One thing that is important is food security, and we do have limited supply here and the possibility of our only road closing makes this an important issue for me. As I stand in my yard I see an incredible amount of food, I have apples, grapes,blueberries and veggie boxes, It’s wonderful to be able to share with your friends and neighbours. We have some incredibly fertile land here in our valley. I would like to see an expansion of Port Alberni’s existing support for urban agriculture and examine whether unnecessary municipal barriers still prevent residents from growing, sharing and selling locally produced food.
